Kurt Rowlands
OWNER/OPERATORAfter three years guiding in Hervey Bay, Kurt made the move north to Weipa in 2022; a decision he calls the best he’s ever made. While guiding full-time, he worked behind the scenes alongside Bargy, and when the opportunity arose to take over the business, he couldn’t say no. Kurt brings relentless passion, enthusiasm, and drive to every trip and plans to channel that same energy into growing and evolving the operation, always with the client experience front and centre.
Scott Hackett
guideScotty is our true jack-of-all-trades guide and one of the fishiest blokes you’ll ever meet. He thrives in the chaos of the guiding world, and if he’s not on the water with clients, he’s fishing himself, researching new areas, refining techniques, or honing his fly designs. With unmatched passion and work ethic, Scotty embodies exactly what it takes to be a top-tier fly-fishing guide.
Jackson Bargenquast
guideKnown as “Jacko,” this young gun guide grew up fishing alongside Bargy in Hervey Bay, chasing everything from marlin to bass. A passionate bowhunter and outdoorsman, Jacko brings a deep appreciation for the natural world. Despite his age, his knowledge of local fishing and wildlife regularly surprises clients, you’ll swear you’re fishing with someone twice his age.
Mark Bargenquast
guideAfter running his own guiding business in Hervey Bay for nearly a decade, Bargy moved to Weipa in 2010 and never looked back. With an intimate understanding of the local waters, days spent fishing with him rarely end without bent rods. Equally passionate about hunting, Bargy is never far from a rod or rifle on his days off.
Alan “Fish” Philliskirk
guideThe original founder of the business, Alan “Fish” Philliskirk is a household name in the Australian and international fishing scene. A true pioneer of fly fishing on the Western Cape, Fish is widely respected across the industry. Most notably, he became the first person in Australia to land a permit on fly in the late 1990s. He brings a lifetime of experience, knowledge, and perspective to the team.
Drew Bolton
guideA Weipa local through and through, Drewy has spent more time on the water than on land. His intimate knowledge of the Western Cape has been earned through years of exploration, leaving no creek, flat, or gutter unexplored. Calm, capable, and endlessly reliable, Drew simply gets it done, no matter the conditions. We’re incredibly lucky to have him on the team.
Liam Van Der Merwe
guideOur resident South African guide, Liam joins us after four years guiding in the Seychelles on Cosmoledo, along with several years guiding Yellowfish in South Africa. For his age, his experience is exceptional. Known for his infectious positivity and deep knowledge of flora and fauna, Liam’s passion is contagious. A talented fly tier and casting instructor, you’ll step off his boat having learned far more than just how to catch fish.
Kiel Jones
guideKiel’s passion for fly fishing runs as deep as it gets. Joining us seasonally from the Millbrook Lakes operation as well as hosting several overseas trips annually, he truly lives and breathes the sport. An exceptional fly tier and casting tutor, Kiel’s calm, steady nature makes him an absolute pleasure to spend time with on the water. We’re stoked to have him as part of the team.
Caitlyn Rowlands
adminThe backbone of the operation. Caity keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes, juggling business management alongside family life, gym sessions, and the many hats she wears daily. Without her, the business simply wouldn’t function! We’re incredibly lucky to have her steering the ship.
