the fishingTrip Overview
[ OVERVIEW ]Your Dream Fishery
Cape York is renowned for its extraordinary diversity. It’s not uncommon to spend a week here and encounter 30 different species on fly, making the fishery as rewarding for first-time saltwater fly anglers as it is for seasoned veterans.
While the variety is remarkable, Cape York also offers some of the most technical and challenging fly fishing in the world. The region is the undisputed global stronghold for the endemic T. anak Permit. If there is one place on earth to tick this species off on fly, this is it. The original founder of the business, Alan “Fish” Philliskirk, was the first person to land a Permit on fly in Australia, and since then the Permit fishery here has grown into a world-class destination.
From sight fishing ultra-shallow, mangrove-lined mud flats for Barramundi and King Threadfin Salmon, to stalking crystal-clear flats for Blue Bastards, Blackspot Tuskfish, and T. anak Permit, through to offshore bait balls being torn apart by a wide range of pelagic sportfish, the opportunities are endless.
No matter the conditions or your experience level, there is always something happening, and always another shot waiting.
[ overview ]There's fly fishing and then there's Weipa, where the sheer variety of species and fishing styles turns every day into something completely different from the last.
